The Cleveland Cavaliers don’t know which way LeBron James is leaning in free agency, but they do expect a decision soon. That’s the word from Fox Sports’ Sam Amico who says that while the Cavs aren’t sure if James prefers to sign with them over the Miami Heat, they’ll know internally by Wednesday.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron James re-signing with the Miami Heat was viewed by many as nothing but a formality, even after he opted-out of his contract. After all, leaving a franchise who has played in four straight NBA Finals (winning two of them) seemed rather unlikely. Of course, back in 2010 few would have expected James to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers in free agency, let alone for the Miami Heat who weren’t exactly a massive market like the Los Angeles Lakers or New York Knicks at the time.

Needless to say, LeBron James has proven himself to be a bit unpredictable when it comes to his free agent moves so the recent suggestions that he could actually return to his former stomping grounds have been met with some validity.

Earlier today, former ESPN writer Chris Sheridan suggested a source informed him that LeBron James returning to the Cavaliers was at about ’75 percent’, an extremely high number.

Cleveland currently has upwards of $40-some million on their books so if they were to offer James a maximum contract (as he’s said to demand), they’d need to make a salary dump trade before any contract could be signed. They have allegedly been shopping players to do so in recent days.
