The St. Louis Cardinals are hurting for starting pitching and watching the market get kick started with the Jeff Samardzija trade has put an emphasis on getting rotation help for the Cardinals. Michael Wacha is out for who knows how long and Jamie Garcia is done for the year which has led the Cardinals to look east to Boston to see if they can’t pry a starter away from the Red Sox.

According to George Estes, the Cardinals have begun scouting and showing an interest in Jake Peavy to help fill in the gaps in the starting rotation.

St. Louis showed an interest in Peavy last year as well but failed to get anything done to acquire him. They need him this season more than they did last year as the holes in this rotation are only going to widen as the Cardinals press deeper into the summer and closer to a pennant race.

It’s unclear what the Sox would want back in return, but with Samardzija and Jason Hammel off the market and David Price looking to carry a steep demand, Peavy might begin to get attention from more than just St. Louis as the deadline approaches.
