It’s disheartening to watch the downfalls of Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon and Charlotte Hornets draft pick P.J. Hairston in their respective lives and sports, yet somehow they recently became intertwined in one of the most bizarre stories you’ll hear this year.
As we know, Gordon was pulled over during the Fourth of July holiday weekend for DWI, just a few weeks before he is scheduled to attend an appeal hearing for his year-long suspension for a failed drug test. Well as we would also come to find out, he was pulled over in a Cadillac that belonged to Hairston.
Now, Hairston has revealed how it came to that point, and it was basically just a chance meeting at a North Carolina grocery store which led to the two deciding to swap vehicles like they were trading their own cards.
“Me and Josh Gordon met at the Fresh Market in Chapel Hill,” Hairston described following a Hornets summer-league practice. “I walked there to get food and happened to run in to him in there.
“I am a football fan so I knew who he was. Right away, we started talking about football, basketball and we walked outside. He saw my car and asked me ‘What are you doing?’ He asked if I minded if we switched cars and we exchanged numbers and he was going to drive my car that night and bring it back to me.
“I said OK and we switched cars. The rest of that is history.”
Hairston was not with Gordon when he was arrested for the DWI.
