The Houston Rockets needed to clear the salary of Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik to make a run at Carmelo Anthony this offseason so they agreed to trade Lin to the Los Angeles Lakers and Asik to the New Orleans Pelicans. Despite losing on Melo and then similarly on Chris Bosh, the Rockets still needed to find a way to move Asik to New Orleans which has required the assistance of a third team.

More from Houston Rockets

According to David Aldridge from TNT and NBA.com, the New Orleans Pelicans and Houston Rockets have roped the Washington Wizards into the Omer Asik deal to help get it done and to facilitate the Trevor Ariza sign-and-trade that has already been agreed upon.

There are a lot of moving parts here but it’s a trade that seems to work on all fronts as the Rockets get Ariza and a first-round pick from New Orleans, the Pelicans get Asik and Omri Casspi and the Wizards get a fat and valuable $8.5 million trade exception.
