Coming off four straight NBA Finals appearances, many assumed that LeBron James would return to the Miami Heat this offseason. But much like he did in 2010, James had a change of heart and decided to return to his former stomping grounds and ‘go home’ as he called it.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron James said all the right things in the media regarding his departure from South Beach, but was there more to it than meets the eye? And was Pat Riley behind it?

As you’ll likely recall, the Miami Heat president accidentally unveiled that LeBron James and his wife Savannah were expecting their third child during his season-ending news conference. That was the same media briefing that allegedly irritated LeBron, though few understood why exactly he was unhappy with it.

Of course, nobody knew (at least not officially) that James and his wife were expecting, so did Riley’s accidental blunder upset the former MVP enough to leave?

"Riley, though, never got that memo. At his season-ending news conference after the Heat’s loss to San Antonio in the Finals, Riley disclosed that the couple was expecting a baby girl."

While it’s possible that James was none too pleased with Riley unveiling the secret prematurely, this is the same guy who returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers after Dan Gilbert blasted him in his famed comic sans laced letter. Given that, it’s hard to think that LeBron would have left South Beach simply because of that. Of course, it may not have helped matters but I highly doubt it was a deciding factor. Simply put, LeBron James regretted his decision to leave (as he’s stated) and wanted to make the situation ‘right’ in his mind.
