The Dallas Mavericks expressed that they wanted to re-sign Shawn Marion this offseason, though likely understood that they’d need an improvement at the position if they were to make any serious noise in the Western Conference.

More from Dallas Mavericks

Given that, the team explored the option of signing Carmelo Anthony, but after striking out signed Chandler Parsons to an offer sheet which the Houston Rockets declined to match. The addition of Parsons was exciting for most, though cast a serious shadow of doubt regarding Shawn Marion’s return to the Dallas Mavericks moving forward, especially since he’s not thrilled at the prospect of being a backup.

Regardless, the addition of Parsons thrilled many, including Monta Ellis who ironically compared Chandler Parsons to a young Shawn Marion.

"“Shawn Marion, but younger,” Ellis said in regards to Parsons’ versatility.“He can knock down shots and bring that young energy and talent to the team,” Ellis said. “Like I said, me attacking and those guys spacing and Tyson rolling, I think it’s going to help me a whole lot because defenses respect them and have to react.”"

Salt, wound.

Of course, the Dallas Mavericks would be more than thrilled if The Matrix decided to swallow his pride and return to their bench, though with only $2.8 million to offer and no starting job available, it’s assumed that Marion will find a more lucrative opportunity elsewhere.

Still, the Mavericks have plenty to offer if Marion is looking for the opportunity to win an NBA championship.
