3-star running back Deshawn McClease was supposed to make his decision about where he would be playing college football on Wednesday, his 18th birthday.

However, McClease just couldn’t wait that long. On Tuesday, he gave his pledge tho the Virginia Tech Hokies. McClease has been to Blacksburg several times and was there again back in April.

“After I came back from my visit I just felt like it was the place for me,” McClease said Tuesday night via Larry Rubama of The Virginian-Pilot. “Everyone around there is passionate about football. Why wouldn’t I want to be a part of that.”

The 5’9, 175-pounder is from Chesapeake, Virginia and attends Oscar Smith High School. He is ranked as the country’s 48th-best running back prospect, the 22nd-best overall prospect from the state of Virginia and the 622nd-best overall prospect in the class of 2015, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.

McClease chose the Hokies over offers from the Indiana Hoosers, Louisville Cardinals and Maryland Terrapins, among others. The Terrapins were considered the Hokies’ biggest competition.
