Cavaliers, Spurs may open NBA's 2014-15 regular season

The NBA knows a good rivalry when they see one and with LeBron James now a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, it looks as if they may attempt to pit two of the best teams in the league against each other on opening night.

While many are likely waiting for LeBron James’ return to South Beach where he’s likely to hear a significant amount of boo birds come out against the Miami Heat, it’s the San Antonio Spurs who may open the Cleveland Cavaliers season.

That’s the word from Frank Isola of the New York Daily News who hints that the two teams may be paired against each other, though there has been no official confirmation of such yet.

It would be about as good a matchup as the NBA could hope for as James and his Cleveland Cavaliers are likely to steamroll over the vast majority of teams they would be lined up against. The reigning champions, at home however, would be a different story and would prove to be a difficult task for the new-look Cavs.

Of course, on the flip side I’m guessing the San Antonio Spurs aren’t thrilled with such speculation as they’d likely prefer to open their home season with a far less formidable opponent, especially on ‘ring night’ as they last thing you want to do is play against another elite team and risk losing on such a special evening.

It’s also a little odd the NBA would elect to have LeBron James not open his season at home, though there are few better places to open the season than with the current champs.
