USA Basketball is known for bringing the best players in the world into international competition, sending the likes of Cleveland Cavaliers’ forward LeBron James, New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant to the 2012 Olympics.

Many of those players will soon meet for training camp as they prepare for the FIBA World Cup in Spain. There is another team called the USA Select Team. Players selected to this team practice against Team USA and help them prepare for upcoming competitions. Players like Washington Wizards’ point John Wall and Cavaliers’ point guard Kyrie Irving has been members. As some Select Team members prepare to make the jump to the national team, six players have been invited to join the Select Team.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston Celtics’ rookie point guard Marcus Smart, Chicago Bulls’ rookie forward Doug McDermott, guard Victor Oladipo and forward Tobias Harris, both of the Orlando Magic and the Plumlee brothers, Mason of the Brooklyn Nets and Miles of the Phoenix Suns, have all been invited to join the team.

All of the players have a chance to play a role on Team USA in the future with many of the current team members potentially ending their international careers in the near future. For now, they will be able to learn from some of the elite players in the world and gain valuable experience as they practice against them.
