The Chicago Bulls and John Lucas III had a solid relationship during his two-year stint in the Windy City, but the team decided to move on from the veteran guard after 2012. That’s when Lucas made his way to the Toronto Raptors and eventually the Utah Jazz were he played the last season.

More from Chicago Bulls

Happy with his bench play, the Utah Jazz are expected to bring him back this season as his non-fully guaranteed $1.6 million dollar contract is considered to be a bit of a bargain by NBA standards. Of course, there is a possibility that the Jazz could trade Lucas and if he’s put on the market, the Chicago Bulls may want in.

That’s the word from ESPN’s Marc Stein who says the team is interested in re-acquiring their former player.

Lucas isn’t a household name nor is he a player who will fill up the stat sheet on a nightly basis, but his defense and leadership isn’t something that shows up in the box score. All for the relatively slim price of $1.6 million and it’s understandable as to why the Chicago Bulls would have interest in John Lucas III.

Of course, it’s not known as to what the Utah Jazz would be looking for in exchange from the Chicago Bulls, though it’s unlikely the price tag would be too high considering his playing time is set to take a drastic hit with Utah’s drafting of Dante Exum.

In 42 games last season, the 31-year-old posted nearly four points a game in 14 minutes of action.
