Troy Tulowitzki might be one of the two or three best players in all of baseball. If not for the presence of that guy named Mike Trout, he might be the best player in all of baseball. Unfortunately for Tulo and for the Colorado Rockies, there is always one big qualifier that hangs over the franchise shortstop.

More from Colorado Rockies

Tulowitzki is all of those things and more, if he stays healthy. If he can manage to stay on the field, he is one of the best guys going. Unfortunately he has not been able to do that over the course of his career. This has had a negative impact on Tulowitzki’s career trajectory as well as the ability of the Rockies to compete each season.

In a season that has taken an unfortunate turn in every other regard for the Rockies, Tulowitzki has shown what he is capable of when he is healthy. In 90 games he is batting an incredible .342/.434/.607 with 21 home runs and 52 driven in. Even with the team not playing well, the good news for the Rockies has been Tulowitzki’s health and elite production.

That all may or may not have come to a halt on Saturday night, however. Tulowitzki pulled up while running to first base and had to exit his team’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a left quad injury. That is especially concerning because of Tulowitzki’s past troubles with quad injuries. The Rockies announced that the injury was a cramp.

The Rockies will hope that this injury is nothing serious, but given Tulowitzki’s injury history they will certainly be nervous that it is something worse.
