Speedy 350-pound high school running back steamrolls defenders (Video)

While massive running backs at the high school level aren’t completely unheard of, it’s pretty rare to see one who is not only huge but also quick on his feet. Of course, most aren’t David Fangupo, a 350lb running back who has committed to the University of Hawaii.

For most of his high school career, Fangupo played defensive tackle and offensive line. It was an understandable position given his size but Kealakehe High School head coach  thought about putting him in the backfield come his senior season.

It proved to be a wonderful decision as Fangupo had no problem destroying opposing defenses, but it wasn’t all due to his size. Sure, his massive frame helped him burst through the line and even shake off tacklers who attempted to get in his way, but there was a unique display of nimbleness and quick feet which helped Fangupo earn a scholarship.

Now out of high school, Fangupo will join the Rainbow’s for their upcoming season though what position he plays is somewhat unknown. Will he return to the line where he’s most likely best served? Or will he be used out of the backfield in a non-traditional role?

Hopefully even if he returns to the offensive or defensive line he’ll be used as a secret weapon on offense occasionally.

It’s easy to see why most ‘large’ running backs are converted out of the position, though, it’s been a while since a player at such a size could get up and down the field with such ease.
