Jameis Winston and Cam Newton have some similar traits. Each has played college football for a university in the state of Florida, both have won national titles and both quarterbacks have a Heisman Trophy on their list of achievements.

More from Carolina Panthers

Winston may soon be able to add another similarity, as the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft which Newton was when he came out of Auburn after one magical season that saw the Carolina Panthers take him first overall in the 2010 draft.

If there’s one player who can speak to the similarities to Newton and Winston, it’s the Panther’s first round pick this year, Kelvin Benjamin who caught passes from Winston last season and his college quarterback believes his pro quarterback is going to be a boost to the Panther offense.

“I think he’s really going to help Cam out, and I know Cam’s always going to have an influence on his players. They’re going to have probably one of the most dynamic combinations in the NFL.”

“I tell K.B. every time I talk to him it’s a blessing he got the opportunity to play with Cam,” Winston said Sunday at the ACC Kickoff media event. “As I was coming up, I always loved Cam’s game. I feel like we have some similar qualities — obviously he’s better. But K.B. going from me to Cam, that’s amazing.”

Winston and Newton have their similarities, although Winston is not in the same category of the dual-threat quarterback of Newton, but their charisma, ability to lead a team and most important, win big football games are some of the similar qualities the two signal-callers share.
