The San Diego Padres on Tuesday dealt Chase Headley to the New York Yankees for a package including Yangervis Solarte. Padres fans are probably wondering now which of their favorites will be the next to go as San Diego proceeds with their expected fire sale.

More from MLB

Those fans might not have to wait too long to find out. Per Jim Bowden of ESPN, Chris Denorfia should be the next San Diego trade chip to be dealt away. Bowden says San Diego will then decide on pitchers Ian Kennedy and Joaquin Benoit.

And after that, the light fixtures, doorknobs, faucets…pretty much everything must go in San Diego.

Denorfia has been linked in recent trade rumors to the Toronto Blue Jays, who are looking for another bench piece. Denorfia is hitting only .239 with 1 HR and 15 RBI so he wouldn’t exactly bring a ton of extra lumber to the table for that team.

The potential big chip for San Diego is Ian Kennedy, who has been their best starter this year. Benoit could be headed to Detroit to take over the closer role from the decrepit Joe Nathan. The Indians and Pirates have also been linked to Benoit.

The Padres now have moved Headley and Huston Street, and it looks like that’s only the beginning. Get ready to learn some new names, San Diego.
