Michael Vick is really hoping to rejuvenate his once promising career in a New York Jets uniform next season. In order to do that, he will have to outperform the younger and likely more athletic Geno Smith in training camp and throughout the season.

More from New York Jets

This will be a tough task of course, considering that Smith started all the Jets’ games last season as a rookie. Smith showed signs of brilliance at times, but did struggle plenty in his rookie campaign.

Vick worked diligently this offseason to impress his new team and get back to his once Pro Bowl form. Even while working hard, Vick was critical of his offseason work and hopes to do better in training camp.

Although Vick will have a tough time beating out Geno Smith for the starting job considering the fact that he will likely take snaps with the second team, there is no guarantee that Smith will remain healthy up to and throughout the regular season.

With that fact in the back of his mind, Vick is motivating himself knowing that he could be called up at any moment to play quarterback for the New York Jets.

If in fact Smith goes down and Vick is put in, the Jets will need his veteran leadership and playmaking ability in order to win football games. We will just have to wait and see if he gets his chance.
