The FIFA World Cup is over and done with but the FIBA World Cup of Basketball is just about to get under way as national teams around the world are starting to train and prepare to take home the World Cup trophy.

More from Los Angeles Clippers

Fresh off a gold medal two years ago in London, Team USA is back in the gym to try and head over to Spain this summer and take home a title that everyone in the country can rally behind. The rosters aren’t set yet, as training camp is just underway, but already we’re seeing names fall off as a big name big man is already pulling out.

According to Yahoo! Sports insider Marc J. Spears, the Los Angeles Clippers have announced that Blake Griffin will be dropping out of Team USA to focus on getting prepared for Clippers upcoming season.

It’s a real bummer that Griffin won’t be playing int he FIBA World Cup for Team USA but his announcement that he’s pulling out comes on the same day that John Wall was extended an invite to come participate at training camp and try to make the final roster.

While it adds star power, swapping Blake for Wall only further makes it seem like Team USA will be a team of point guards and nothing more.
