One player who has been the subject of rumors despite his team saying he’s not available is pitcher Cole Hamels, who has been on the radar of a few different teams throughout the course of this month.
The Boston Red Sox are one of those teams and after being rebuffed by the Phillies in the past, it appears that Philly may be warming to the idea of making the trade as Jayson Stark points out Phillies scouts were at the AA Red Sox game this week.
Now, this doesn’t fully confirm that trade talks have nor will take place in the future but there no doubt seems to be at least some mild form of consideration on the part of the Phillies, who are still apparently on the fence about paying Cole Hamels. The Red Sox have their own pitcher to worry about in Jon Lester, and the uncertainty there with his potential new deal may be why Hamels is the big target he is at the moment for Boston.
