Pot is becoming less and less taboo in America, which is a good thing for a lot f reasons but there seems to be a misconception that dope being legal in certain states means everyone can support it without consequence.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a normal citizen of the United States retweeting support and taking a pro-pot stance. It’s not so okay to do so if you’re under contract to a professional league that frowns upon the use of the drug.
That’s the situation — or non-situation — that Dion Waiters is in after making a questionable decision to retweet a fan wearing his jersey (that’s okay) whilst smoking a blunt (not so okay).

It’s hard to determine how we should feel about this as marijuana really isn’t that big of a deal despite those who try to claim it’s as though you’re huffing paint or shooting heroin into your nose or veins.
But while the hip stance on pot is to be be supportive of it, the NBA is professional league that frowns upon illegal drug use — which marijuana is in the state of Ohio. Waiters might be within his rights as a citizen to support the use of marijuana but the NBA revokes that right since he’s under contract and this little retweet might be something that puts Waiters under the microscope, even it if seems like a complete non-issue.
