When the New Orleans Saints drafted arguably the most prolific wide receiver coming out of college football in Oregon State product Brandin Cooks, many speculated that Drew Brees would be happy that he had a shiny new toy to play with in his offense. Well after a few days of practicing together, Brees definitely seems pleased with Cooks.

In speaking to the nola.com recently, Brees was asked about the team’s first-round pick, and he not only raved about the talent that he brings to the table, but his intelligence as well.

“Here’s a guy who’s obviously extremely talented,” Brees said. “But more so than that, very intelligent. You get this feeling that he wants to be great, he loves football, he wants to learn. Every time he comes up to me, it’s eyes wide.

“Feed me, feed me information. He absorbs it very quickly and goes out and applies it. I’d say that’s pretty rare for a young guy. Typically their head is spinning for a little while. Doesn’t seem like anything is too big for him.”

Adding Cooks to the mix of this already talented offense that includes the likes of tight end Jimmy Graham is certainly dangerous, and Cooks could easily be put in the position to take home the Rookie of the Year honors by the time the season is done with.
