Andrelton Simmons with the incredible barehanded play (Video)
By Dan Zinski
Andrelton Simmons makes so many incredible plays at shortstop that we’re starting to take him for granted. But trust me, this is not easy. Not many shortstops make this play.

A bad hop forces Simmons to adjust in the middle of fielding this ball off the bat of Will Venable. He manages somehow to snag it barehanded and throw to first in one motion to get Venable.
It’s Ozzie Smith. That’s all I can say. That play is Ozzie Smith.
Omar Vizquel too. It’s Ozzie Smith, Omar Vizquel and Andrelton Simmons. And that’s the list. In my lifetime, it’s those three guys.
I can’t say anything about Rabbit Maranville because that was before my lifetime. Rabbit Maranville may have made that play too.
Get down with your bad self, Andrelton Simmons. You are the embodiment of shortstop wizardry for this generation. In the future, they will compare other phenomenal fielding shortstops to you. Old men will say, “Andrelton Simmons was the greatest shortstop I ever saw.”
They will build statues to you on the moon, Andrelton Simmons. Well okay maybe not. But you are amazing.
