The Miami Marlins have clung to the idea that they’re going to re-sign slugger Giancarlo Stanton at some point this year and lock him into a long term deal.

More from Boston Red Sox

Other teams around baseball have a different idea of how all that will go down, namely the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers. Both American League clubs want Stanton badly and both seem to have the means to make a move on him should contract talks break down with the Marlins and they have to try and get rid of him and flip his value for some kind of return.

Per Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe:

"Texas and Boston have the chips and the financial flexibility to make anything happen during the offseason. Both teams may be major players for Giancarlo Stanton if Miami can’t sign him long term and puts him up for sale. Texas has tremendous chips and also just added two more with their Joakim Soria deal with the Tigers."

This may not seem like new information — probably because it kind of isn’t — but the fact that the rumors won’t go away isn’t something to ignore if you’re a fan who wants your team to acquire Stanton from the Marlins.

He may not be attainable at the moment but the Marlins haven’t signed him long term yet and until that happens, Stanton’s going to be the subject of trade rumors especially of teams have the means to acquire him.
