NBA Power Rankings

10. Rajon Rondo:

2013-14 Stat Line: 30 games, 33.3 MPG, 11.7 PPG, 9.8 APG, 5.5 RPG, 1.3 SPG, .403/.289/.627 shooting, 15.3 PER

Two things you need to know about Rajon Rondo: 1) He might not be the same guy we remember pre-ACL injury and 2) Rondo was always just a teensy bit overrated. A lot of Boston Celtics fans are probably going to disagree with No. 2, but even though Rondo’s penchant for racking up triple-doubles is impressive, I’m just not always blown away by a typical Rajon Rondo triple-double stat line of 11-10-10. Maybe that’s just me.

However, no matter what your opinion is on Rondo as a player or triple-doubles in general, No. 1 is a daunting and sad concept that basketball fans are hoping is proven incorrect in 2014-15. Last season, Rondo only played 30 games and though his numbers were decent for a guy coming off a major knee injury, those shooting splits are about as aesthetically displeasing as Kelly Olynyk’s hair.

Rondo is one of the best passers in the league, his basketball IQ is on a different level from 99 percent of the league and he finds creative and impossible angles to open teammates before they’re even there. He’s also a great defender and rebounder for his position. But as sad as it is to say, Rondo’s days as one of the league’s elite point guards could be behind him, especially because he has no jump shot to make up for his potentially waning athleticism.
