Doug McDermott has yet to play his first NBA game, but he’s currently experiencing what many NBA veterans have to deal with on a yearly basis: trade rumors.

With Kevin Love on the open market, the Chicago Bulls haven’t shied away from making an offer in hopes of bringing the league’s best power forward to the team. Unfortunately, McDermott has been one of the pieces included in the rumored package–as well as Taj Gibson, Jimmy Butler, and rookie Nikola Mitotic.
And instead of shying away from the rumors, McDermott has faced them head on, revealing he’s aware of the noise in an interview with Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.
"As for McDermott, he was well aware of the noise out there about Love, and also aware that his name is attached to it.“I didn’t really pay attention to it much,’’ McDermott said. “I think rumors happen a lot. There’s been a lot this offseason. So you’ve just got to stay patient. You can’t really read into that stuff. I’m just focused on what I can do to become better.’’"
In an odd way, McDermott could find these rumors as a compliment to his talent. A lottery pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, McDermott is expected to take be a near-elite offensive talent in the NBA for the next ten seasons. And with the Minnesota Timberwolves being interested in him, it means they’re sold that his skill set can help them through the rebuild period.
But this is apart of the game. The best of the best have been included in trade rumors. At this point there’s not much McDermott can do but sit back and wait and see how things come into fruition.
