The Dallas Cowboys signed left tackle Tyron Smith to a mammoth contract extension on Wednesday. That deal eats up a huge chunk of cash and makes the prospect of signing wide receiver Dez Bryant to an extension all the less likely.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport said “it’s nearly impossible” on Twitter before stating that he thinks it is unlikely that a deal gets done before the start of the season.

From NFL.com:

"Appearing on Inside Training Camp Live, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport said he would be “very surprised” if Bryant lands a new deal over the next month. Sources close to the situation have told Rapoport there has been no real progress in contract talks."

There was a conflicting report from Dallas Cowboys insider Mike Fisher, to which Rapoport countered.

NFL Media’s Desmond Purnell tweeted out comments from Cowboys’ Stephen Jones which backs up Fisher’s claim.

There were reports that Dez wasn’t thrilled about Tyron Smith’s deal, but he tweeted out a positive message about it.
