Hayward took to his website on Wednesday to to speak about his excitement in regards to his involvement with Team USA and the tournament.
Unfortunately for Hayward, he made a tiny mistake that implied he’s actually preparing for the FIFA World Cup, which is obviously the incredibly popular soccer tournament that recently wrapped up.
He wrote:
"Right now, I’m in Las Vegas as part of the Team USA pool that’s getting ready for the FIFA World Cup. That’s pretty special. There’s nothing like playing for the USA. I said that when I played for the United States U-19 Team in New Zealand, and nothing has changed. There’s just something amazing about having USA across your chest."
Hayward has since corrected the blog post, but not before Spencer Hall of Salt City Hoops took a screen shot of the error.
While funny to read Hayward write that he’s “preparing for the FIFA World Cup,” it was clearly an honest mistake and the quick fix shows Hayward knows he has no affiliation with FIFA.
Hayward is trying to make the final 12-man roster with the World Cup starting in August.
