The Houston Rockets lost small forward Chandler Parsons to the Dallas Mavericks this offseason, so might the Rockets attempt to reverse fortune on the Mavericks regarding Shawn Marion? It sounds like a possibility.

More from Houston Rockets

Despite signing Parsons to an offer sheet, the Dallas Mavericks were said to still have interest in bringing back free agent Shawn Marion. But ‘The Matrix’ wasn’t exactly keen on the idea of being a backup and playing for limited funds. Given that, he’s decided to test the market and while a handful of teams have shown interest in signing the veteran, he has chosen to wait for his best opportunity. Might that be the Houston Rockets?

According to Hoops Rumors, it’s something we may want to keep an eye on.

"The Rockets have most of their non-taxpayer’s mid-level exception to spend, as well as their $2.077MM biannual exception. It would surely please Rockets GM Daryl Morey to poach the Mavs’ starting small forward after Dallas had done the same to Morey’s team with a near-max offer sheet to Chandler Parsons."

Shawn Marion, like most veteran players, wants to contribute to a winning team and get paid well in the process. However, most teams that are expected to be in a race for the title are void of the needed money or desired playing time Marion is looking for, leaving the Houston Rockets as a serious option.

Granted, he’ll still be playing a backup role to Trevor Ariza, but there are plenty of minutes available for the former All-Star in Clutch City.
