The New York Knicks don’t have many assets that will help them get better this season, though Phil Jackson and the rest of the front office seem to feel that Iman Shumpert could nab them some solid talent in the trade market.

That may be true, but Jabari Davis of Basketball Insiders seems to feel that Shumpert’s trade value isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

"I don’t think Iman Shumpert has nearly the trade value some tend to suggest. I think we would have seem him involved in a deal long before now if he did."

It’s a valid point from Davis, though, the New York Knicks may be waiting for a better scenario since many teams go on ‘vacation’ during August and teams aren’t completely sold on their rosters as of yet. So it’s entirely possible that the New York Knicks are waiting until closer to the season to pull a trigger on an Iman Shumpert deal, though, the suggestion of a reduced trade value seems more likely.

The other problem facing the Shumpert trade is simply the lack of assets the New York Knicks can pair with him. While teams may have interest in the young combo guard/forward, his salary isn’t going to be large enough to bring in a big name player who is tied to a hefty contract. Now, the Knicks do have some nice expiring contracts, though it’s questionable if Shumpert and an expiring deal will be enough to acquire a difference maker which seems to be the sentiment of Davis.
