The New York Knicks managed to get Carmelo Anthony back this offseason which was more than we all thought they were going to be able to do during the first summer of Phil Jackson being in charge.

But before they re-signed Melo, the Knicks went out and made some stellar moves to make their roster even better than it was before — which may not seem like much but it actually is. One of the key cogs for the Knicks moving forward may be second round draft pick Cleanthony Early out of Wichita State, and the Knick made the first move to make him a big part of their team on Friday.

According to multiple reports, Early and the Knicks agreed to a rookie contract which means he’ll have the next few years to develop under Carmelo Anthony, Derek Fisher and Phil Jackson.

The Knicks may be sitting on a potential star in the making with Early, who has wowed in the Summer League and is looking to make his mark on New York as part of the revamped roster. It may be a year or so until the Knicks are any good, but Early has a year to develop and could come out as a strong roster pilar in the 2015 season.
