Despite their best efforts, the Chicago Cubs are unable to get Yasiel Puig out on this play at the plate. Welington Castillo tries his darndest to apply the tag but Puig somehow manages to avoid it.

More from Chicago Cubs

The Cubs didn’t really agree with the call and asked the umpires to review it, but replay upheld the out call. Turns out, Puig was forced to leave the game shortly after this with a strained hamstring.

Puig is lucky he managed to avoid the tag because it was really a dumb base running play. Puig tried to score from second after a throw to first on a ground ball to third, which is just not intelligent at all. It was 8-1 Chicago at the time so I guess a little aggressiveness is okay but still. No reason to try and score from second on that.

Puig bailed himself out with his nifty moves around the plate but he also hurt himself in the process, so I’d say that’s a wash. Still an entertaining play. Just stupid.
