The San Francisco 49ers made a difficult decision on Monday when they waived running back Kendall Hunter.

They were left no choice, unfortunately, when Hunter tore his ACL earlier in camp. While the relationship between Hunter and the 49ers might be struck back up at a later date, his departure would seem to clear the way for the time being for a group of guys that includes LaMichael James, rookie Carlos Hyde, and comeback player Marcus Lattimore.

In the wake of the decision with Hunter, the 49ers added another player to the mix on Monday night, signing undrafted free agent Glenn Winston.

Not only did they sign Winston, but they inked him to a three-year deal to boot. From Adam Schefter:

Don’t be embarrassed if you don’t know who Winston is, because 49ers.com has got you covered with the Cliff’s notes version of his career:

"An undrafted rookie free agent, Winston spent two seasons at Michigan State before finishing his collegiate career at Northwood University. In 2013, Winston played in eight games and rushed for 717 yards and nine touchdowns on 175 carries for the Timberwolves.Winston, 25, is a native of Detroit, Mich."

So there you have it. Add Winston to the mix of young running backs who are waiting, along with fantasy football owners everywhere, for the ageless Frank Gore to actually show any signs that he is ever going to slow down at one of the most demanding positions in the league.
