The Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to put together the best roster they possibly can now that LeBron James is back in town and that has them pursuing Ray Allen to potentially spice things up.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

One thing that might hold up a deal though is the fact that Ray Allen isn’t so hot on coming back to the NBA this year — or ever — as he might retire from the league and call it a career. That’s not an official or final decision but it’s looking like it’s one of the more realistic options about Allen’s future.

James Jones, who played with Allen in Miami and has signed with the Cavaliers, spoke with Allen recently and conveyed his desire for his former teammate to join rank in Cleveland.

Per Tom Withers of The Associated Press:

"“We talked about those things that are important to us, which are families, our legacies and our careers,” Jones said. “So he has a decision to make. Of course we’d love to have Ray. Hopefully he makes a decision that’s best for him, and hopefully it’s a decision to continue to play. But as far as where he goes and what he’s thinking, I don’t know.”"

It’s a hard sell for Allen, especially since his heart really doesn’t seem to be in it anymore. But should he return, there’s really only one place for him to go and his former teammates are seemingly going to remind him of that every chance they get.
