Colorado Rockies’ shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has not demanded a trade.

More from Colorado Rockies

For the benefit of over-exuberant New York Yankees’ fans everywhere, that sentence bears repeating: Troy Tulowitzki has not demanded a trade out of Colorado…at least not yet.

Tulowitzki spoke to the Denver Post after taking batting practice on Wednesday as part of his rehab process. While he did not say he wants out, he did state in no uncertain terms that he wants to see change in the organization and that he wants to see it soon:

"“I think that’s why I came out numerous times and said I want to win. It doesn’t mean I want out of here. It means I’m sick and tired of losing.“Something needs to change. Hopefully that comes fairly quickly. You can’t force it. But at the same time, we’re all frustrated with this year — especially me.”"

The change that could truly make a difference would be at the ownership level. Unfortunately for Tulowitzki and for Rockies fans, their bumbling owner Dick Monfort has no reason to leave. Like most professional sports team owners, he probably enjoys his gig very much.

At that point things fall to the front office. In the case of the Rockies, that would be their co-general managers Dan O’Dowd and Bill Geivett. Both of those men have been in the organization for quite some time, even if they have minimal success to show for it. The Rockies are nothing if not loyal, one might observe.

In order to get serious about turning things around and persuading their star shortstop to stay, however, they might need to break that loyalty and make a change. If and when they do, it will have been long overdue.
