We have seen bats land in some crazy spots when they come out of a hitter’s hands.  Who can forget Denard Span almost taking out his own mother in the stands a few years ago?  Bats fly into the seats all of the time.  Rarely do we see them go into a dugout.

More from Los Angeles Angels

That is what happened to Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez last night during the game at Angel Stadium.

Hanley led off the top of the third inning of last night’s game with the Dodgers already up 2-0 on the Angels and Matt Shoemaker.  He was obviously looking for more.  What he got instead was a piece of the bench in the home dugout, and nearly took out a security guard in the process.

Now that is something you don’t see everyday.  That is a good thing.  Bats can cause some serious damage!  Thankfully, the Angel bench was mostly empty at the time since they were in the field.  That security guard may have a nasty little bump for a couple of days.  At least it didn’t hit him before the bench!

The Dodgers went on to win the game 2-1.  While Hanley’s bat toss was obviously not intentional, one must wonder if it will add to the budding Angels-Dodgers rivalry.
