Knowshon Moreno had to wait a while to get back on the field, but now that he’s returned from PUP designation, someone might have to force him to take off those pads again. If his first practice was any indication, he’ll be ready to go when he needs those pads the most.

More from Miami Dolphins

“It feels good to put the pads on and work with the guys,’’ Moreno said per the Florida Sun-Sentinel.

“Now the next couple of days I’ll just progress and do more and more each day,’’ he said later.

Moreno will compete with Lamar Miller for the starting job and whenever Daniel Thomas returns, it will become a three-man race for the RB1 slot. If the competition is based on past performance, Moreno should have the inside track to the job. He topped 1,000 rushing yards and added ten rushing touchdowns, which is more than Thomas or Miller can say.

Whoever runs the ball will have a short leash though. The Dolphins can’t afford to have a putrid running game once more. The team ranked 26th in rushing yards/game, which made life much more difficult for QB Ryan Tannehill.

As Tannehill enters his critical third year in the league, he’ll need all the help he can get and that starts with the running game. Credit Moreno for being willing and ready to do his part.
