The running back position is exceedingly interesting when it comes to the NFL. On one hand, the culture of fantasy football on a national scale shines a great deal of light on the day-to-day progress of any contributing running back, but on the other, NFL teams have shown (repeatedly) through the draft process and free agency that the position has taken a significant downturn in terms of “real life” value to an organization.

Still, there is a great deal of talent at the position in today’s NFL, and some members of the “old guard” are continuing to dominate the league when given the opportunity. In this space, we will rank the best running backs in the league, and it is crucial to remember that “best” does not always equal “best stats”, especially in what has become a passing league.
