I’m not sure Pete Rose understands the whole Hunter Pence sign thing. He made a Hunter Pence sign that is actually complimentary toward Hunter Pence. Pete doesn’t get today’s humor. Cause he’s old and probably doesn’t even know how to work the internet.

Or, other possibility, maybe Pete felt bad for Hunter Pence because of all the s–t he’s been taking from people and all these signs. Maybe he wanted to cheer Hunter up a little bit. The sign may have been Pete’s way of reaching out to Hunter Pence and giving him a little pat on the back.

Third possibility, Pete Rose has a way more subtle and profound sense of humor than we give him credit for. Maybe his sign is meant to subvert the whole Hunter Pence thing in a deliberate way, like Dada-ism was meant to subvert modern art. Pete’s effort could be the Hunter Pence sign equivalent of Marcel Duchamp putting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.

Between those three, I’m going with Pete Rose is an old clueless grandpa who doesn’t get today’s humor. But it’s a heart-warming message nonetheless.
