Oakland Raiders news: Derek Carr will not be playing with first team offense
By Jack Crosby
The Oakland Raiders opened up their preseason schedule this past weekend against the Minnesota Vikings, and starting quarterback Matt Schaub, who the team traded for this offseason, was not what they hoped he would be in his first outing. This immediately led to the questions of whether or not second-round draft pick Derek Carr would get a chance to lead the first team offense, which is still not in the cards.

In speaking to the media, head coach Dennis Allen noted that Carr will not be receiving any reps with the first team at this time, despite the poor outing from Schaub.
“It’s not really part of the plan right now,” Allen said. “We’ll evaluate everything as we move along, but the plan is to work Matt Schaub as the starting quarterback. I think he’s done a good job of doing that.”
He also noted that he wasn’t completely disappointed with the performance of Schaub, and that the team needs to play better as a whole.
“I was not displeased with Matt Schaub’s performance,” Allen said. “We obviously need to play better. We need to be more consistent, but I thought there were some things we can build on.”
Schaub. in three series on the field in the preseason opener, finished just 3-of-7 for 21 yards, while Carr was 10-16 for 74 yards with an interception in his NFL debut.
