Every NFL fan would agree that chemistry between a quarterback and wide receiver is crucial for success. So, it is great news for Carolina Panthers fans that quarterback Cam Newton and rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin have formed a strong bond, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press.

More from Carolina Panthers

"Together the duo has been lighting it up in practice, connecting regularly on crossing routes and deep balls. When they’re not playing pitch and catch, they’ve been practically inseparable, even spending time together recently boating on Lake Lanier outside of Atlanta, Georgia.Newton said from the moment he first talked to Benjamin “there was a connection.”(…)“We respect each other enough to be able kick it with each other, but also push each other to be great,” Newton said. “We’ve got that unique relationship that we hold each other to a standard.”"

The chemistry between Newton and Benjamin is even more important for Carolina, considering they just endured an offseason in which they lost wide receivers Steve Smith,  Tedd Ginn Jr. and Brandon LaFell. Benjamin’s a rookie, but the Panthers need him to produce immediately.

The Panthers selected Benjamin with the No. 28 pick in the NFL Draft out of Florida State. He caught 54 balls for 1,011 yards and 15 touchdowns with the Seminoles in 2013.

Newton passed for 3,379 yards and threw 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his third NFL season with Carolina last year.
