Golden State Warriors, Klay Thompson unlikely to reach deal by trade deadline
By Josh Hill
The Golden State Warriors refused to trade Klay Thompson for Kevin Love this summer, and now that the drama is over in that regard it’s going to start right back up again with contract talks between the two sides.

Thompson is clearly valuable to the Warriors, but they’re hesitant to tie up too much money in one player, especially since Thompson is asking for more than what Steph Curry is making over the next three years with the Dubs.
According to Steve Kyler from Basketball Insiders, the Warriors and Thompson may be mutually interested in a deal, but one is not expected to be made by the trade deadline this year.
"There has been a lot of talk that Thompson is seeking a near max level extension and that seems unlikely given the $12 million Steph Curry earns. It is likely that Thompson and the Warriors do not reach a deal before the deadline, unless he comes off his asking price."
It seems that restricted free agency is going to be a route that Thompson takes, as the team isn’t going to budge on their stance of not overpaying to keep Thompson and it’s unlikely that the star budges on his stance when it comes to what he expects in return from the Dubs on his next contract.
