The New York Knicks have grand plans for the 2015 free agent class and one player in-particular is said to have their eye, Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies. The Knicks have reportedly coveted the younger brother of Pau Gasol for quite some time and they’re not the only team to do so.

Only problem? It doesn’t appear as if they’ll have a chance to woo Marc Gasol in free agency as the center is likely to re-sign with the Memphis Grizzlies, even if he doesn’t sign a contract extension during the season.

Gasol has stated that he enjoys playing in Memphis and for the Grizzlies and isn’t exactly the type of personality who desires to play in the bright lights. Given that, many expect Marc Gasol to return to the Grizzlies, including Basketball Insiders.

"There is always a risk of losing a player whenever they can hit unrestricted free agency, but the sense from Gasol and the Grizzlies is that as long as a max offer is there in June, he’ll re-sign."

Memphis will of course have Marc Gasol’s Bird Rights so they’ll be able to offer him more money and a longer contract than any other team in free agency. Doing so is of course a completely different argument, though it seems far fetched to think they’d let Gasol walk for no reason.

All that said, Marc Gasol isn’t going to come cheaply and could be looking at an extension that pays him over $19 million dollars next season, though judging by the lack of big men in the league, hard to argue not giving that to him if you’re a fan of the Grizzlies.
