Larry Fitzgerald has been the big dog in Arizona for almost too many years to count, but the big dog may at last have some competition for his title. Reports out of Cardinals camp say Michael Floyd is lighting it up, and some are suggesting that he may soon challenge Fitzgerald’s status as no.1 WR.

Dan Pompei of Sports on Earth tweeted about Floyd and what some are saying about the receiver in camp:

Floyd was no slouch last year, catching 65 balls for 1,041 yards and 5 TDs. He’s shown steady improvement since being drafted in the first round in 2012 and this seems about the right time for him to truly bust out and become a star in the NFL.

Fans in Arizona might not want to hear it, but Larry Fitzgerald isn’t going to be the big dog forever. Eventually the old big dog has to come back to the porch and take a nap and let the new big dog run.

Floyd is the new big dog and he’s ready to run.

Fitzgerald still has some running left in him too, but that spot on the porch, on the old ratty blanket in the corner, is looking more and more inviting.
