The NBA season is just around the corner and that means we’re going to start hearing season prediction rumors from major outlets and writers and one of hte predictions being made is that Andrew Wiggins is going to be a player in the Rookie of the Year race.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

According to Jabari Davis from Basketball Insiders, the supporting cast that Wiggins has around him in Minnesota, and the fact that he has a chip on his shoulder after being traded, may help him compete for Rookie of the Year this upcoming season.

"I think Wiggins has a really good chance to compete for that award. We know he’ll have plenty of opportunities to shine in Minnesota, and I’m personally looking forward to seeing what a Rubio/Wiggins/LaVine uptempo game might look like at some point. What we don’t quite know is just how Wiggins will respond to the way things happened in Cleveland (once the deal is officially made). Does he use it as extra motivation or does he fold beneath the pressure? I think he’s going to respond, and I believe he’s going to be a phenomenal talent at this level by years 4-5 while showing flashes along the way."

Wiggins has a lot going for him in his rookie season and there’s a good chance that he would have competed for Rookie of the Year if he were still in Cleveland. But the chance to be the only star in Minnesota, plus the chip on his shoulder all means that Wiggins is in line to be a leader among rookies this season.
