Brittney Griner engaged to fellow WNBA star Glory Johnson

Brittney Griner has stared down pressure-packed situations throughout her life and responded very well. As basketball fans know her, she has come through in the clutch numerous times over the course of her career at Baylor and with the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA.

This week Griner and her girlfriend Glory Johnson, also a tremendously successful basketball player who plays for the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock, were faced with another high-pressure moment.
In a number of ways, this might have been more nerve-wracking than anything either has faced on the court. Even if that is the case, they came through and now have the exciting news that they are engaged. Griner posted the following picture to her Instagram account:
Griner acknowledged her nerves in the moment in her caption that accompanied the image:
"Last Night was a Night to Remember! I became the happiest person on this earth! (almost pass out but when that one word came out I came back to life) Me and my baby @missvol25 are in it for Life!"
To less fanfare than the men who have come out and advocated for homosexual athletes, Griner has dealt with the ups and downs of coming out in the public eye, complete with all of the praise and all of the trolls.
That will also be the case here for her and Johnson here. For a point of comparison, imagine the explosive reaction if two NBA players were engaged. Even if they will receive less attention for it, Griner and Johnson both will continue to blaze a trail here with their engagement. It is also a fascinating prospect that they will eventually play against one another as a married couple.
