Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is as important to the team’s offense as any player is to any other team in the league, so the Chiefs need to be cautious when Charles is a little banged up — especially in a meaningless preseason game.

So, when the Chiefs take the field at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday night in Week 2 of the NFL preseason, Charles will not be on the field.

Charles did not travel with the team to Charlotte and he is currently resting up and recovering from a foot injury.

From Adam Teicher of ESPN:

It is not a serious injury which is good news, but the Chiefs and their fans have to be concerned about Charles’ inability to stay 100 percent.

Charles will once again be the key member of the Kansas City offense and he will play a large part in determining whether or not the Chiefs will be able to repeat the success that they had a year ago.

Hopefully his foot injury will not be something that nags him throughout the season.
