Fantasy Football 2014: Jacksonville Jaguars RB Rundown

facebooktwitterreddit

The Jacksonville Jaguars definitely didn’t sit still offensively this offseason.  The Jags brought in Gus Bradley as a new Head Coach and also moved on from the Blaine Gabbert era.  Along with a new coach and a new QB, the Jacksonville offense has a new featured running back as Toby Gerhart replaces long-time Jaguar Maurice Jones-Drew.

While there is definitely question marks all around the Jaguars offense including at QB where the competition remains unsettled, Gerhart has some nice potential since he’s going to be the focus of the offense to take the pressure off either Blake Bortles or Chad Henne.

Here’s my take on where you should slot in the Jags running backs for your fantasy football drafts. The rankings listed are from my top 80 RB which came out last week and which will be updated later this week.

RB. Jacksonville Jaguars. Toby Gerhart. 16. player. 52. Gerhart hasn’t ever been a featured back in an offense before and how only topped 500 yards rushing in one season in his career.  Last season, he did show flashes of full-time potential filling in for Adrian Peterson, but then Gerhart suffered an injury of his own which does raise concerns about his own durability.  Despite the facts that he hasn’t been a full-time starter and that he now gets that chance in Jacksonville, I actually like Gerhart from a fantasy perspective since I think he’ll get a lot of touches and be very involved catching his share of passes and getting goal line work as well.  Gerhart is a solid RB2 for your fantasy team with the upside to be more and a relatively high floor.

52. One of the reasons I think Gerhart is a relatively safe option is that there really isn’t any threat to his top spot on the depth chart at this point.  Todman has had an underwhelming preseason but still reportedly is locked in as the primary backup.  He can catch the ball out of the backfield, but even if Gerhart went down he probably wouldn’t be the feature-back since he hasn’t shown much burst as a first or second down option.. RB. Jacksonville Jaguars. Jordan Todman. 58. player

52. In contrast to Todman, Robinson has had a very solid preseason and has shown some serious explosion as a change-of-pace option.  If Gerhart went down, he’d become a valuable part of the committee to replace him and should be first up off the waiver wire if that happens.  Robinson could get 5-8 touches per game out of the backfield which could make him a depth addition depending on how creatively the Jags deploy their “offensive weapon.”. RB. Jacksonville Jaguars. Denard Robinson. NR. player
