Boston Celtics rumors: Rajon Rondo doubtful to re-sign, trade likely?
By Bryan Rose
The Boston Celtics have a franchise altering decision to make in the coming months (or even weeks). Do they try to re-sign point guard Rajon Rondo or do they seek out a trade for the free agent to be?

For the past few years, Rajon Rondo has seemingly found himself oddly on the trade block yet the Celtics have adamantly denied any desire to trade the former Kentucky Wildcat. Yet, his name continually pops up in trade rumors and today is no different.
According to Alex Kennedy, it’s doubtful that Rajon Rondo will re-sign with the Boston Celtics and that could very likely spark a trade.
"Unless the Celtics are able to trade some of their first-round picks and young assets for a star player, I think they will move Rondo. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent next summer and I can’t imagine him re-signing with Boston since he’s a veteran who is at the point in his career where he wants to contend. I think the Celtics will move him rather than risk losing him for nothing next offseason."
Obviously the Boston Celtics can’t risk letting Rajon Rondo walk without any type of return, so it seems likely that if the two sides can’t agree on an extension before the February deadline, he could be on the move. Of course, the longer Boston keeps him on the roster the lower his trade value as he’ll be nothing more than a rental player if he’s moved at the NBA’s trading deadline.
