The Dallas Mavericks had a pretty alright offseason this year but they didn’t get everything that they wanted and some of the names that helped the team reach the postseason last year won’t be returning in 2014-15.

A potentially important name that won’t be back is that of Shawn Marion, who decided to take his talents to north Ohio and signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. But while the Mavericks wanted to try and get Marion back this summer, they’re not chastising him for leaving.
In fact, Mavs president Donnie Nelson is wishing Marion the best as he’s remembering the veteran for what he did to help the team, not how he left the team this summer.

Marion leaving Dallas wasn’t likely an easy decision for the veteran or for the team but it’s clear that they’re parting ways amicably. That’s not something you see everyday in the NBA but it’s nice to see a team respect on of its players enough to let them pursue their goals in their career on their own terms.
