As we speak, the Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants sit locked in their own pennant races and very well could end up with a postseason birth. Of course, both could also miss out which is why both are said to be clamoring for Cuban star Rusney Castillo to sign a contract.

More from Detroit Tigers

Both the Tigers and Giants are just two of the many teams attempting to sign the powerful slugger, though few likely need him more – especially right now – than the Tigers and Giants who are trying to keep their head above water as they fight for playoff seeding.

Rusney Castillo has been working out for multiple franchises recently and is expected to sign with his new team soon. It can’t come quickly enough for the Tigers and Giants who desperately want to thrust him into their lineup if he was to pick either of them.

"There is said to be urgency on the part of some of the teams involved in talks, and that makes sense since at least two teams known to be in the running — the Tigers and Giants — could use him in the pennant race. The Tigers have been known to be heavily in the mix, while Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports first mentioned the Giants as a potential player."

Both destinations would be a solid landing spot for Castillo, though San Francisco isn’t exactly a hitter’s park which may scare the Cuban sensation away.

It’s expected that Castillo will get a contract similar to that of Yasiel Puig when he does sign.

In addition to the Giants and Tigers, the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners are all said to have interest.
