Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Isaac Redman has not played a down in the NFL since being released by the team in October of last year, but fans in Pittsburgh were discussing the possibility of bringing him back to the Steel City after marijuana arrests for the team’s top two running backs — Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount.

According to Redman, there are also a handful of other teams that have called to gauge interest, but he is unfortunately unable to play.

On Friday morning, the 29-year-old Redman took to social media to announce that he suffered a career-ending injury to his spinal cord.

“To those who are wondering why I am not playing anymore, last season I tried my best to play through a neck injury,” Redman wrote on Twitter, “but I just wasn’t myself on the field. After being released, I went to Calif. to see Dr. Watkins (the doctor who did Peyton Manning’s neck surgery).

“After two MRI’s and a CAT scan, he then told me I had suffered a career ending injury to my spinal cord.

“Various teams have called, but as you can see I was unable to go. I would like to thank all my fans for the tremendous support throughout my career.”

Redman was a physical and bruising running back that many Steelers fans enjoyed watching.

The former Bowie State rusher who entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2009 finishes his professional career with 1,148 yards and five touchdowns. Redman averaged 4.1 yards per carry.
