New York Knicks’ J.R. Smith wants to be a better leader
The New York Knicks went from 54 wins in the 2012-2013 season the 37 wins in the 2013-2014 season and one of the big reasons for their struggles was the regression of guard J.R. Smith. Smith won the Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2013 but really struggled last season.

Smith went for 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 41.5% from the floor, 39.4% from three and 65.2% from the charity stripe last season. Smith, who was originally selected by the New Orleans Pelicans (then-Hornets) with the 18th-overall pick int he first round of the 2004 NBA Draft, has averaged 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 42.5% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc and 73.7% from the foul line. He also played for the Denver Nuggets.
